Glasses VS Contacts

The glasses vs. contacts debate has ensued for a long time. But while, which may include you, have made their decisions, it is important that you are aware first of their specific purposes.

First, you must know that both of them are made of lenses that are used to correct various eye defects. But the main difference is that glasses are lenses in a frame that you wear in front of your eyes. On the other hand, contacts are therapeutic lenses that you put directly in your eyes.

Generally speaking, it has been proven by studies that contact lenses are better and more effective than glasses in correcting vision. In fact, contacts are recommended for extreme vision problems more than glasses because the lenses of contacts are more powerful than the lenses of glasses.

If you have distorted vision because of astigmatism, or even an extreme case of it, you should wear contact lenses. But you should also know that if you have nearsightedness or farsightedness, these cannot be corrected by contact lenses. Contact lenses are specifically made to correct astigmatism; that is all.

So if you want to correct multiple vision problems all at the same time, you should go with glasses. Though they are not as powerful as contact lenses but the specially made glasses are the only ones able to fix this type of vision problem. As for the other benefits and conveniences of glasses vs. contacts, they are quite varied.

Contact Lenses

As for contact lenses, since you put them directly in your eyes, you can see everything around you without the inconvenience of a frame or rim getting in the way of your peripheral vision. You can look in any direction without having to remove them, unlike glasses. Contacts give you the illusion that you are not wearing anything to correct your vision.

You do not have to worry about glare or reflection as well if you are using contact lenses. Also, you do not need a frame because they are directly put in your eyes.  Similarly, contacts do not fog or blur your vision especially when it rains. And it would not alter your appearance, unless you deliberately want to do that. You can buy stylish and colored contact lenses in this case.

Some disadvantages of contacts are the fact that they are more expensive than glasses because they have to be replaced on a regular basis-daily, every 2 days or every month. You would also need to buy cleaning fluids and lubricants.

Glasses

As for glasses, one advantage of glasses is that they are easy to wear. Unlike contacts which have to be carefully placed in and removed off your eyes every single day, you can just slip your glasses on. There have been some innovations in contact lenses though. There are contact lenses that you can use for a month, non-stop. You can sleep and wake up with them.

Also, if you have dry eyes or runny eyes, glasses are highly recommended because they do not interfere directly with your eyes. Glasses are also more affordable and they last longer unless your grade has to be adjusted every now and then.

So ultimately, if you are still lost on the glasses vs. contacts debate, just know the pros and cons, advantages and disadvantages as shown in this article.
